Computing Showcase

Last week, we held our first ever ‘Computing Showcase’ for Years 2, 3 and 4. Ran by a group of Year 5s, the children got to get hands on with a variety of computing equipment, including: VR headsets, Sphero Indi Robots, Intelino Smart Trains, Dashbots, Beebots, Rodocodo and Micro:bits. The aim was to expose the children to the amazing equipment we have in school and to encourage their love of computing! All of the children were extremely positive about the day and we will be sure to hold another one soon!

Lego League Club Starts

A group of 12 Year 5s have embarked on a Lego project over the next few terms. We will be creating and coding various ocean themed creations in the project called ‘Submerged’. So far, we have built a submarine, sea creatures and treasure chests and over the next few weeks will be coding them to flash lights, move a propeller and sense if something is too close! Watch this space!

Making Treasure Maps in The Hazels

We went over to The Hazels this week to create some treasure maps. We had to orientate our maps correctly and then drew on some landmarks to help people follow the maps to some coins that had been hidden. Lots of learning on show and lots of fun was had!

Comic Relief 2025 at SAF

We celebrated Comic Relief 2025 in school by having a ‘Hop-a-thon’ on the field! Each class had a session to see how many hops they could do.  We also were selling red noses and children wore their own clothes.  Overall we raised £462 for the amazing charity.

For more information about where the money goes, please see here: What Your Money Does | Comic Relief

Spring is Here!

Mr Andrew’s class went up to The Hazels today to celebrate the first day of Spring! We looked for sign of new growth during a nature walk, and then collected some sticks in. We explored the area and enjoyed the chance to explore the outdoors!

Trip to Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery

Year 5 travelled to Shrewsbury today to take part in a printing workshop at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery. We studied some of the buildings of Shrewsbury, then planned what our prints would look like. We then created the templates and experimented with different colours of ink. We had some lovely creations!

As well as this, we had the opportunity to explore the museum too. There were different sections, including Shropshire, The Romans and Medieval Shropshire. We learnt lots!

Safer Internet Day 2025

We marked Safer Internet Day today with a variety of activities. The theme this year is: ‘Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online‘. We gathered in the hall for an assembly led by our Digital Leaders. They ‘scammed’ children into thinking they were winning some tempting prizes, but actually there were some bad consequences! The message was that if things are too good to be true…they often are!

Later on, EYFS used songs and small world play to tell the stories about being safe. KS1 took part in a variety of different activities and KS2 took part in the BBC Live Lesson where we had to identify the signs of a scam.

We even got a shout out on the BBC news feed!

Raising Money for Severn Hospice

Before Christmas, the staff baked lots of tasty treats for a series of coffee mornings to raise money for Severn Hospice. Nikki, from the charity, came in to say thank you today for the total money raised which was £204. The charity do amazing work and to find out more then please see here: Home – Severn Hospice

Crumble Fairground Rides

To complete our Computing unit this term, Year 5 are coding and creating their own fairground rides. They had to make the sparkle flash green for go, then start spinning using a motor and then flash red when it was stopping. Everybody worked very hard and should be proud of their creations!
