SEESAW
Seesaw is our online learning platform and is where we will put any information that we need to share. Please sign up to view your child’s journal as you will get a great insight into what they are up to at school and we can reward them for their home reading and any other home learning tasks! If you need a reminder of your login please speak to your child’s class teacher.
READING AT HOME
We encourage all children to read at home for at least 10 minutes per day. Reading should be recorded on Seesaw using the journal post uploaded by your teacher each week. This could be by sharing a video of you reading, a sound file, a photo or a written summary of what you’ve read.
We are very lucky to have access to Reading Plus. Reading Plus can help your child acquire the skills needed to become a confident, capable reader and lifelong learner.
Reading Plus can:
- Improve their fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and stamina
- Build vocabulary
- Increase motivation for reading
Children should be aware of their login for this and can access the login page from the link below:

SPELLINGS

We encourage children to practice these at home as much as possible.
A Parent’s Guide to Practising Spellings at Home
Why spelling practice matters…
In Key Stage 1 and 2, the focus is on developing accuracy as well as a range of strategies for spelling.
Although teachers will highlight spelling errors to children, it is important children recognise for themselves when they have made an error and know a range of strategies for correcting inaccuracies. By this stage, children will have a range of spelling strategies that they will have been taught to draw on. Children will use the strategy which best suits their learning style and works best for them.
OUTDOOR LEARNING
Year 5 will take part in Outdoor Learning throughout the year. You will be told in advance when this is and your child will need to come into school in uniform and they will change in school. Children will need to bring their wellies, waterproof coats, waterproof trousers/suit and as the weather gets colder to bring hats and gloves.
HELPING AT HOME
Parents can support children by practising any spelling patterns or spelling investigations which are sent home as part of home learning and also by helping children to read and spell the Y5/6 word lists (included in this document).
Children will practise these spellings throughout the week in spelling lessons and will be tested on a Friday using some of the words from each week or others with similar spelling patterns.
We will track your child’s progress in spelling through the statutory word lists and half-termly reviews.
Remember to make practising the words enjoyable and not a chore.
