Special Educational Needs and Disability

Sir Alexander Fleming Primary School is an inclusive school and all teachers:
- Do everything they can to meet pupils’ special educational needs
- Ensure that pupils with SEND engage in activities alongside their peers,
- Provide high-quality teaching, differentiated for individual pupils.
Mrs Lisa Pigg is the Special Educational Needs and Disability Co-ordinator (SENDCo) she holds the statutory National Award for SEN coordination and Postgraduate Certificate in Special Educational Needs Coordination. She works closely with school staff and outside agencies to support and assess children as a need arises.
She can be contacted at

or on the school number 01952 327820.
We support children with a range of SEND needs including those with Speech, Language and Communication needs (SLCN) Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) ASD, Hearing and visual impairments (HI & VI), Physical difficulty (PD) Moderate learning difficulty (MLD) and those with a specific learning difficulty (SPLD) such as Dyslexia or Dyspraxia.
We have our ‘Den’ nurture provision running in the afternoon to support social, emotional and mental health needs.
We also have our internal SEND provision called the ‘Hive’ and our TLC room that is used to run small group interventions, in particular, SEMH.
In September 2025 we opened our Lighthouse.
The Lighthouse is our Internal specialist provision within a mainstream primary school. This approach allows for a modified learning environment with enhanced pupil-teacher ratios, alongside opportunities for inclusion in mainstream classes if appropriate.
