Alex Bear loves to read!

Each week in nursery Alex Bear goes home with a child. He loves to read and wants to share lots of stories over the weekend with our children and their families. This promotes a love of reading for our youngest children.

Parents then upload what their child and Alex read on the Seesaw App so that we can see it in class. The children love seeing which books he’s read and this motivates them to read even more!

Alex loved reading Dear Zoo and The Jungle Boogie with Zulikha.

National Coding Week Assembly

We had an assembly this morning to celebrate National Coding Week. We looked at what coding is, why it is important, how we do it in school and where it could take us in the future. We also looked at the inspirational figure of Grace Hopper and her impact on the computer science field.

Parent Reading Mornings

Each day a year group invites parents in to read with their child in school. Check out our parents in the EYFS this morning!

This shows our children how we all value reading here at Sir Alexander Fleming.

Reading to children is one of the most important things we can do. Children who are read to every day hear millions of words which they can use in their play and learning. And it is such a nurturing, fun and interesting thing to do.

Thank you to all our parents for their wonderful support.

School Photographs

Thursday 19th September

School photographs are planned for the morning of Thursday 19th September.

If you have a child who attends Nursery for the afternoon session only then please come along and have your photographs taken at 8am.

All children will have their photograph taken individually and with siblings who are in school. We are unable to offer this to siblings who do not attend as we only have a morning session.

What a great start to the term! Relationships, routines and fun!

The children and practitioners in nursery have had a wonderful start to the term.

We support children to transition into nursery in many different ways, starting with home visits. This enables children to meet their teacher in the place they feel most comfortable and allows parents and staff to chat about important information that will shape the provision offered to children in the EYFS. It builds the foundation for strong relationships between families, staff and children and we have continued to nurture these by interacting with the children at every opportunity.

Children have been exploring the environment and developing an understanding of the opportunities on offer and where resources are kept. ‘Sorting time’ is a wonderful time for mathematics. They are already beginning to show our school value of respect.

Routines are a crucial within our setting and children have been helped with visual timetables to involve themselves fully within these. They are starting to show the ability to self-regulate and following an adult’s instructions.

Educators pride themselves on getting to know children well and are continually interacting, observing and assessing what children can do and what they need next.

Look at our sunflowers 🌻

During the Spring and Summer term, we learnt firsthand that:

Many plants grow out of seeds.

Seeds grow into seedlings with roots and shoots.

Roots and shoots then grow leaves above ground.

Many plants make flowers, which turn into fruits.

Flowers and fruits make their own seeds.

Look at our fabulous sunflowers!

We will collect the seeds in the Autumn, ready to plant again next Spring. 🌻

Good afternoon,

At Sir Alexander Fleming Primary School and Nursery, we believe children should feel a sense of pride in being a member of our school family. This is reflected in the pride they show when wearing our school uniform.

We commit to our duty to make sure that our uniform is affordable, in line with statutory guidance from the Department for Education on the cost of school uniform. We try to ensure that uniform is available at a reasonable cost and that it provides the best value for our parents and carers.

Please find attached the ‘Uniform Expectations for September 2024’.

We are sending this out now so that you can familiarise yourself with it and ensure that you are confident in any purchases you make over the summer holidays.

Summer Fair – Thankyou

Lego League Festival

On Friday 5^th July, 10 children represented the school at the LEGO League Festival. It was an exciting and vibrant event, drawing together schools in a day filled with innovation, creation and learning.

The day consisted of STEM activities which tested the children’s problem-solving skills. The children worked well as a team throughout the day, taking part in numerous activities including code breaker, gutter alley, badge making, VR activities and much more.

After months of creating and testing their models the children were able to share their designs and journey with the judges. The judges were impressed by the creativity, technical skills, and teamwork displayed by both teams from our school.
