A Visit From A Dental Nurse

As part of our U is for Unique project we have been learning about parts of our bodies.

We have a dentist role-play area. Zoe, a dental nurse visited us and taught us how to look after our teeth. She showed us how she looks after patients and how she uses dental tools.

We can use this knowledge in our play. We have learnt new vocabulary such as, “plaque” and, “cavity”.

We are taking this learning further by using mirrors to look in our mouths and creating sketches of them.

Visit from the Dental Nurse

We have had a wonderful visit from Zoe the dental nurse, and her friend ‘Derek’. She reminded us that we need our teeth to smile, chew and talk, and that we need to look after our teeth. The children had some super ideas and know they need to brush twice a day, for two minutes. We were also told to ‘spit it out’ and NOT rinse our teeth with water. Can the children remember which foods are good for our teeth?

Forest School is a risky business!

A fantastic part of our forest school ethos is that children are challenged to take risks.

We support children to assess and manage these risks.

“It may be too high on this occasion. Try again next week.”

“Do you feel safe?”

“Could you adapt something to lessen the risk?”

“How could you make it trickier?”

We are settling into nursery well!

The children have been exploring their new environment, making relationships with our caring teachers and engaging with the routines of the day.

Woodwork in the Early Years

Parents, carers, grandparents, aunts, uncles… We need your help. We are looking for a regular source of scrap wood and offcuts for use in the Early Years’ upcoming woodwork area. If you know anyone who would be able to donate unused wood or offcuts, our children will make great use of it.

Please look out for our ‘Bits Bin’ which will be making an appearance in reception. We would love your old lids, bottle tops, corks, buttons, fabric and old CDs!
