Kicking the football season off with an 8-1 win…

We kicked the football season off with a convincing 8-1 win…

On Monday, our Year 5 and 6 girls football team played their first friendly of the season. The girls played at home against Muxton Primary School and put on a fantastic display of football for the spectators. Our girls showed determination, teamwork and spirit as they battled their way to a convincing 8-1 win in their first game of the season. All members of the team played their part, and Miss Brown and Mr Broderick were extremely proud.

Well done all- on to the next!

An expert visitor to kick start our learning . . . Laura the hairdresser!

We design our Early Years curriculum to reflect our community and address the needs of our children.

It starts with ideas that all children can access . . . this term is identity, because all children have one. It also helps children to feel seen and heard.

As part of this we are focussing on our appearance and therefore we have a Hairdressing Salon in our role-play area. This also links to the planned Expressive Arts and Design opportunities of drawing and form as children will be creating portraits of themselves. It also links to Science and body parts.

Laura the hairdresser visited us, showing us the tools she uses and describing what she does for her job. This has already enhanced the vocabulary the children are using and helped them to take on roles and use their imagination.

Next week we are having a different hairdresser to visit in order to address and highlight diversity. Staff have shared books such as Rapunzel set in Africa and My Hair is a Garden so that children are seeing a range of hair types.

Behaviour Meeting for Parents

Dear all,

‘Everyone has a right to feel safe at school. The staff at Sir Alexander Fleming Primary School and Nursery are committed to ensuring that every child is protected from harm. Everyone is of equal value and will be valued equally regardless of whether they have a disability, whatever their ethnicity, culture, religious affiliation, national origin, or national status, whatever their gender and gender identity and whatever their sexual identity.

It is everyone’s responsibility to help make our school a happy place where everyone can be successful. We expect that the respectful behaviour of children will enable teachers to teach, and each other to learn. Everyone is responsible for their own behaviour and our expectation is for good behaviour offline and online. Good behaviour is something to be proud of and so is rewarded and celebrated. The education of many children will be protected from disruption by a minority who are demonstrating unacceptable behaviour; this will be met with consequences. Parents will be informed about the expectations of the school and about the consequences if the child behaves inappropriately in school, in the community and online.’

If you would like to find out more about how we manage behaviour in our school then please come along to the meeting on Monday 25th September at 3.45pm in the school hall.

See you there.

Behaviour Policy and Curriculum

As part of our behaviour review we have updated our behaviour policy and procedures and implemented a behaviour curriculum across school.

We have spent the first week back teaching and training our children on our behaviour curriculum and we will continue to focus on these elements as the year progresses. The focus for next week is how our children move around school and also uniform.

As a school, we appreciate your full support and as always if you have any concerns then please do not hesitate to come and share these with us.
