Here at Sir Alexander Fleming, we promote healthy lifestyle choices to both children and parents. Children are encouraged to make healthy food choices and ensure that they eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. We have our own excellent school kitchen which is led by us; we pride ourselves in providing freshly cooked meals for the children daily that allow for the correct portion size per child. Our kitchen menu follows the Food Standards and we are able to do this for the fantastic value of £2.20 with a free day for paying parents once a week. Fruit and vegetables are provided as daily snacks during breaktime and children are allowed to bring their own healthy snack to school.
Every week, children take part in two hours of physical activity (PE sessions). During break times and lunch times, there are a variety of fun, physical activities all children can participate in, from playing football to basketball. Our Sports Leaders are outside during lunchtime providing group games and activities for the children to join in.
EATWELL visits Sir Alexander Fleming to deliver cooking sessions. During these sessions, children are able to learn about the origins of different types of food; learn about the sugar/fat content in common snacks and learn simple recipes which they can cook at home with an adult e.g. pasta sauce.
