Walsall Art Gallery Visit

A group of children have had a wonderful visit to the art gallery today. It has supported their engagement with the outside world and brought art to life in a very thought provoking way. Their progress in both knowledge and skills was directly related to their experiences in the workshop and art collections.

We were all in awe seeing artwork by famous artists such as Matisse, Van Gogh, Constable, Turner and Picasso.

Year 4 Theatre Trip

“Kindness is the language that can be understood by everyone.”
Miss Perkins’ and Mr Broderick’s class travelled to Wolverhampton theatre to watch The Boy at the back of the Class. This is a core text which is used to develop children’s comprehension in year 4.
The book is written by Onjali Q. Rauf and tells the story of a Syrian refugee who comes to the U.K. It explores themes of diversity, discrimination and kindness.
The children were so moved and enthralled they were heckling the character of the school bully and cheering on Ahmet!
We shared our experience with our parents during an assembly. This was a way of celebrating and recalling our knowledge.
Miss Perkins also contacted the director and was able to get her hands on a script from one of the scenes we watched. The children are using this in our English learning about playscripts and our Guided Reading by comparing the narrative with the script.
The book has allowed the children to explore the British Values; individual liberty, mutual respect and understanding different faiths and beliefs whilst also developing their compassion and understanding of the wider world.

Attendance Week!!

Our attendance week last focused on attendance and punctuality. All of our classes tried really hard and we had many classes that achieved 100% each day; lots of classes achieved over our 96% target too.

Our Year-to-Date overall attendance is: 95.56% which is below our school target of 96% but above the National Average of 93%.

I wonder if we can get above 96% before the end of the Summer term??

Our Year-to-Date persistent absence is significantly below National Average at 7.5% which is fantastic!

We are currently ranked 14/54 schools in Telford and Wrekin!

Well done for amazing attendance last week – let’s keep it up this week… I’d love to get 100% for the whole school one day 🙂

Attendance Week – Day 2

Day 2 of Attendance Week and the classes have done us proud!
We had 6 classes at 100% attendance and 11 classes over the 96% target and only 2 children were recorded as late!
Year 6 received brownies and flapjacks this morning for AMAZING attendance on Monday!
Our overall target for today is 97.52% 😀
Let’s try and get 98% for Wednesday 🫶

Attendance Week – Day 1

What a great start to our attendance week! Year 6 and Nursery are our classes in the lead at the moment! Let’s see if we can get a few more up there with them 🙂 Keep arriving on time, everyday to be in with a chance of winning prizes…🥇🏆🎖💚

A Time For Celebrations; Ramadan and Easter

During the spring term children in nursery and reception learnt about a range of celebrations from different religions and cultures in order to develop their knowledge of People and Communities. This also supports the school value of being respectful and prepares them for their future lives.

The children learnt about the Muslim celebration of Ramadan by looking at books, artefacts and participating in crafts. They learnt that the moon is very important to some Muslims who participate in Ramadan and talked about the countdown to Eid and fasting. The children learnt vocabulary related to clothing some Muslim’s wear like a hijab. One of the children brought in a hijab from home which further enriched children’s learning and made the new vocabulary even more meaningful.

The children learnt about the Christian celebration of Lent and made pancakes at forest school. Practitioners layer children’s knowledge through a range of experiences. They read and acted out the runaway pancake, luckily ours did not run away and we managed to gobble it all up! The children were able to safely sit around the fire. The children and staff explored the Christian story of Easter through storytelling eggs and designed Easter cards. The children participated in an ‘Easter Tea Party’ which was decorated with salt dough crosses they had made a Christian symbol of the cross.

Practitioners were able to draw out connections between the two religions with children.
